Is membership mandatory to apply for PMP certification

PMI Membership is not mandatory to apply for any of the PMI certifications including PMP Credential, having said that, it is advisable to apply for the PMI membership.

PMI Membership fee = USD 139
PMP Examination Fee for members = USD 405
PMP Examination Fee for non-members = USD 555

So it is cheaper to apply for PMI membership and then apply for the exam.
